Character

"Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy."
Gen. H. Norman Schwartzkopf

"The measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he never would be found out."
Thomas Babington

Character is developed through experience, confidence, responsibility and maturity. These are traits that normally develop over time as a man ages. It is a great paradox that those most in need of character, the young and impressionable, are those just beginning to develop it.

At MMA, we use the time honored methods of the United Stares Marine Corps to instill character into our cadets by giving them responsibility and confidence in ways not possible at a public school and rarely found at most private schools. Giving a young man responsibility over other cadets awakens an understanding of what leadership entails. This develops a sense of maturity through realization of weight of responsibility coupled with the confidence in making right decisions for the good of the group or team, rather than just for one's self.

We know that the most important value that we can instill in our cadets is character.

"Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."
Abraham Lincoln
